“The Shadow Strays” features shocking gore and unbridled, over-the-top violence, but lacks depth
It follows the familiar theme of a talented assassin who, tired of his secret life, risks everything to save someone he barely knows. Thirteen (Aurora Ribero), a compassionate 17-year-old assassin, takes on a dangerous Jakarta crime syndicate that threatens her young neighbor, Monji (Ali Fikry).
A series of gruesome and dramatic clashes decimate their ranks
Monja’s mother, Mirasti (Jesyca Marlein), was a sex worker exploited by the brutal pimp Haga (Agra Piliang), who is in league with shady nightclub owner Ariel (Andri Mashadi) and his politically influential father Soemitro (Arswendy Bening Swara). After Haga murders Monja’s mother, Treize befriends him and engages in a deadly game of cat and mouse with Haga, Ariel and their accomplices.

The film drags on in constant combat and lacks the substance needed to unite its elements. While the cinematography is commendable, some early fight scenes are poorly executed as the opponents line up to be taken down one by one.
