Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum and must look to his past to find strength to return the glory of Rome to its people..

Musician Nick Cave was invited to draft a version by Russell Crowe and Sir Ridley Scott

His version focused on the more mythical elements of Ancient Rome, and would have seen Maximus arrive in the afterlife, only to be faced with other souls who are yet to ascend further.

He is eventually tasked by Jupiter and other Roman deities to return to earth to find and kill Hephaestus, a former deity who has betrayed them

From there, he is resurrected as a Christian and finds himself journeying back to Rome, on a mission to stop Christianity from spreading, while crossing paths with the new Emperor, Lucius.

The studio decided not to go through with this version, but the script is available to read online

The movie would have ended with Maximus being cursed to live for an eternity, featuring a montage of the soldier battling through the Crusades, World War II, and the Vietnam War, eventually revealing a modern-day Maximus working at the Pentagon in Washington.

Never has the gap between my expectations and the actual impact of a film been so great

The possibilities were so great with the casting of two of the greatest actors of our time – and even they couldn’t make the film have soul.

The script and soundtrack were completely forgettable, although Pugh and Garfield gave great performances with what was available to them

The back and forth timeline made for an incomplete emotional journey as there was no build up or stakes to invest in.

Both characters fell very smoothly and I felt very little emotional investment in them

I had such high hopes and was counting the days for this movie and was terribly disappointed when I left the screening.

Here’s hoping someone brings the two together in a future film and gives them a better shot at creating a masterpiece

This show is very well written

Also, if you’re a fan of Jason Segel, you won’t be disappointed. It has well-developed characters that deal with real-life issues. It brings all the feels and leaves you wanting more every week.

Can’t wait for season 2!

Ted Lasso feels like a warm hug in his veins. Anyway, check out this show. You will be very happily surprised and glad you started the journey.
