Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says, “The Mole Agent” is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar across all ages, ethnicities, and genders, and I would describe that feeling very reductively as, “I have to call my mom.” In our show, we try to do something similar with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call our moms?
A remake of The Mole Agent (2020)
I think a lot of fiction naturally aims to make you think something like, “It was an honor to share the lives of these fictional characters.” This show undeniably achieves that goal.
Props to all departments involved
Even those who come for the mystery, which he focuses less on, should be captivated by the humanity that comes through not only in the writing, but in the acting of all the cast members.
While Netflix has been tough on series renewals lately, I hope they live up to the power of this show by giving it a second season, as I look forward to seeing more of these incredible characters
